two guys looking at the pc

Every CV is individual, just like your career. In the following blog, our recruiters will tell you what you should bear in mind when creating your CV.

Your resume is the first thing a recruiter sees and determines how much time a hiring consultant spends on your dossier and whether they contact you for a personal interview. Experienced recruiters review over 1000 CVs per year and decide within seconds if the profile might fit the position they are seeking. Therefore, it is essential that your skills and experiences are clearly visible. If your dossier is a potential match, a thorough review takes several minutes, during which certificates and diplomas are checked and matched with the resume.

Tips from our Recruiters
We asked our Gi Group Consultants what they look for in a resume and what stands out in their daily work. Here are ten tips for a good resume, including a template:

  1. Choose a clear design
    • Ensure the information is quickly accessible.
  2. Apply with a PDF document
    • Compile all relevant files.
  3. Customize your CV
    • Tailor your CV and short profile for each job.
  4. Add a title
    • Next to your name, e.g., academic degrees or professional certifications (PhD, FA, EFZ).
  5. Add profile links
    • Include links to your LinkedIn or Xing profile under personal details.
  6. Highlight the key points
    • Your CV should be 1-3 pages long.
  7. Include a cover letter
    • Mention specific points about the job or information about your desired working hours and availability.
  8. Provide job-specific information
    • For example, programming languages for IT jobs, lab skills for life sciences jobs.
  9. Note goals and career aspirations
    • Especially important at the beginning of your career.
  10. Pay attention to details
    • Check your dossier for typos and spelling errors.
