For our client, an international pharmaceutical company, we are currently looking for a Buliding Safety Officer.


Location: Basel

Contract: Project planned until 07.2029 (internalization possible)


SMF Project: Renovation of a chemical production facility. Responsibilities include managing the interface between project activities and ongoing operations, issuing work permits, and ensuring compliance with the protective measures outlined in those permits. Additionally, providing support to and easing the workload of the building safety team.


Ideal Candidate: Possesses significant experience in managing large-scale construction projects and operational facilities within the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Demonstrates confidence in handling interactions with both clients and contractors, while maintaining an open, communicative, and collaborative approach. The candidate should be assertive, dependable, and persistent, with a critical and analytical mindset. They excel in staying calm, organized, and focused even during high-pressure situations.



Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the point of contact between the construction site and the operational team.
  • Provide support to the existing SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) organization of the operator.
  • Issue work permits to contractors and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable safety regulations.
  • Attend and contribute to coordination and construction meetings.
  • Conduct safety inspections as required.


Required Qualifications:

  • Educational background as a Chemical Technician or Laboratory Technician
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in chemical production
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety and SHE principles
  • Additional certifications such as Safety Assistant, Safety Specialist (EKAS), or Occupational Safety and Health Specialist (ASGS).
  • Proven experience with large-scale construction projects, including working with clients and contractors, as well as production facilities in the chemical/pharmaceutical industries
  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, and Google GSuite.
  • Fluency in both German and English.


Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in French is an advantage.
  • Independent, proactive, and responsible work ethic, coupled with a strong commitment to safety.
  • Leadership skills and prior experience in managing teams.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to quickly grasp new concepts.
  • Capability to act decisively and responsibly in critical situations, including halting operations when safety is at risk.
