QC Microbiology Manager


Role Overview:

The QC Microbiology Manager is responsible for overseeing microbiological quality control activities within a pharmaceutical environment. Leading a team of around 15 staff members, the manager ensures the proper execution of environmental and utilities sampling, microbiological testing, and trending, while maintaining compliance with GMP and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of around 15 microbiology analysts and technicians
  • Coordinate and supervise microbiological sampling (environmental monitoring, utilities, raw materials, finished products)
  • Oversee microbiological testing and trending of environmental and utility data
  • Ensure compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Manage deviations, CAPAs, and OOS/OOT investigations
  • Support training and development of team members
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the QC microbiology lab


Profile Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field (required for candidates with limited experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree acceptable for candidates with extensive experience in pharmaceutical microbiology
  • Proven experience in a pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory (mandatory)
  • Previous team management experience (ideally managing teams of 10+ people)
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, pharmacopoeias, method validation, and deviation management
  • Fluent in English, German and/or French a strong asset
  • Exclusions: Candidates with backgrounds solely in food or non-pharma industries will not be considered
